Border Magic / Boulder Designs based in Rantoul, Illinois is ranked #261 on Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500 list for 2011 - up from #498 in 2010

The ranking is based on financial strength and stability, growth rate, and size of system. Entrepreneur also considers how long the company has been in business and how long it's been franchising, start up costs, litigation, percentage of terminations, and whether the company provides financing.

Border Magic / Boulder Designs also ranks #79 on Entrepreneur's list of top home based franchises for 2011.

The company was founded in 1987 and began franchising in 2003. According to the magazine they had 81 franchises in 2010.

RANTOUL – The story goes that a group of guys from Missouri who sandblast boulders into signs were driving along U.S. 45 when they came across Boulder Designs, a Rantoul business that displays a number of its boulder signs along the highway, and they pulled over.

Where do you get those massive boulders for your signs, they asked, wondering about the nearest quarry.

Get them? “We make them,” explained Eldean Bergman, owner of Boulder Designs and Border Magic.

Loretta Lynn

Boulder Designs® founder Eldean Bergman along with his wife Vickie were invited guests to Loretta Lynn’s 50th anniversary event to honor her contributions to Country Music. The invitation only event was held on September 24th 2010 followed by a concert for the general public on September 25th. The event was held at her ranch in Hurricane Mills TN. In honor of Loretta Lynn’s great accomplishments to the Country Music industry, Mr. Bergman of Boulder Designs® personally delivered the boulder to Loretta Lynn at the event. The boulder pictured below will be permanently set at her museum for visitors to photograph and enjoy.
